The First Assistant Golf Professional at The Club at Tartan Fields plays a critical leadership role within Golf Operations, supporting the Head Golf Professional and General Manager in delivering an exceptional, consistent, and welcoming golf experience for members and guests. This position is designed for a motivated PGA Professional seeking growth into a future Head Golf Professional role, with a strong emphasis on member engagement, staff leadership, instruction, and operational excellence. Core Responsibilities:
Member Experience & Daily Golf Operations Serve as a visible, approachable leader in the golf shop and on the golf course, fostering strong relationships with Tartan Fields members. Assist in managing daily golf operations including tee sheet management, pace of play, course setup, cart operations, and outside services. Act as Manager on Duty for Golf Operations in the absence of the Head Golf Professional. Address member questions, requests, and concerns promptly, professionally, and in alignment with Tartan Fields service standards. Support enforcement of club policies, pace of play expectations, and golf etiquette in a positive and member-friendly manner. Team Leadership & Development Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and scheduling of golf shop and outside services team members. Lead by example and help establish a culture of accountability, professionalism, and hospitality. Support ongoing training related to customer service, rules of golf, point-of-sale systems, and operational procedures. Mentor Assistant Professionals and seasonal staff as part of their professional development. Tournaments, Leagues & Member Programming Assist in planning, organizing, and executing all club golf events, including men's, women's, couples, junior, and member-guest tournaments. Oversee event logistics such as pairings, scoring, rules administration, course setup, and on-course support. Collaborate with Food & Beverage, Agronomy, and Member Relations teams to ensure seamless event execution. Instruction & Player Development Provide private lessons, group instruction, clinics, and player development programs for members of all skill levels. Support junior golf programming, ladies' golf initiatives, and beginner development. Promote instructional programs to enhance member engagement and drive golf revenue. Merchandising & Retail Operations Assist with golf shop merchandising, inventory management, and visual presentation consistent with the Tartan Fields brand. Support retail promotions, special orders, demo days, and member-focused sales initiatives. Maintain current knowledge of golf equipment, apparel, and industry trends to better serve members. Administrative & Financial Support Assist with payroll management, scheduling efficiencies, and labor cost control within the golf operation. Support budgeting initiatives and operational reporting as requested by the Head Golf Professional or General Manager. Ensure compliance with club policies, safety standards, and PGA guidelines. Utilize and manage golf software systems (tee sheets, POS, tournament software). Qualifications:
PGA Member or Associate in good standing (progress toward membership required). Minimum 24 years of experience in a private club or high-end golf operation. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and organizational skills. Passion for member service and relationship-building. Experience with tournaments, instruction, merchandising, and staff supervision. Proficiency with golf management systems (ForeTees, Club Prophet, Jonas, EZLinks, or similar). Physical & Scheduling Requirements:
Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays during peak golf season. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to lift up to 2550 pounds. Growth & Development Opportunity:
