Recreation Specialist (TR-Day Camps Disabilities)
Under the immediate supervision of the Program Director, the Recreation Specialist (TR-Day Camps Disabilities) provides customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. The specialist also plans and implements recreation and leisure activities for individuals and groups with disabilities. They understand the effects of disabilities on recreation and leisure skills. The specialist must adjust actions in relation to others, actively look for ways to help people, talk to participants to convey information effectively, communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand, tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong, and listen and understand information and ideas presented through various types of communication. Required Education and Experience: Must be 18 years of age or older. One year experience working directly with individuals with disabilities. Must be able to lift and/or transfer individual with disability independently or assisted. Must be able to swim and be in the water to provide support to individuals with disabilities. Must be certified (unexpired) or able to be certified within three (3) months of hire in: CPR/ First Aid Certification; Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), Nonviolent Crisis Intervention. Certification must be acquired and maintained as part of employment. Must have valid Driver's License for those positions which require driving. Environmental Conditions: Office environment: exposure to computer screens; working closely with others. Outdoor environments: exposure to extreme weather conditions; slippery/uneven surfaces; high noise levels. Physical Conditions: Duties require maintaining physical conditions necessary for lifting and/or transferring individual with disability independently or assisted; standing, bending, stooping, kneeling; general manual dexterity required.
