Key Responsibilities
Design, fabricate, and repair precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures.
Operate and program various manual and CNC machine tools (e.g., lathes, mills, grinders, EDM).
Interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models for tool specifications.
Perform precise measurements and inspections using metrology equipment to ensure accuracy.
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve tooling malfunctions and wear issues.
Select appropriate materials and apply heat treatment processes for tool longevity.
Maintain and calibrate production tooling to ensure optimal performance and quality.
Recommended Qualifications
Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or equivalent vocational training.
Proven proficiency in operating and setting up manual and CNC machining equipment (mills, lathes, grinders, EDM).
Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and GD&T specifications.
Expert‑level use of precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and CMMs.
In‑depth knowledge of various tool steels, alloys, and other materials used in tool manufacturing.
Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills for tooling issues and manufacturing processes.
Bonus Qualifications
Proficiency in CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam)
CNC programming experience (G‑code, conversational)
Experience with welding and/or heat treatment for tool repair and modification
Familiarity with advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, optical comparators)
