Senior Plant Mechanic
Location: San Tan Valley, Arizona
Department: Fac Opns-AZ East 2-Corp
Shift: Day – 7:00am to 3:30pm, Monday through Friday with an on‑call rotation.
Sign‑on bonus: $5,000 available for qualified Plant Mechanics.

Position Summary This position is responsible for conducting preventative and corrective work to the facility center’s operations of the power plant and facility infrastructure equipment including mechanical equipment boilers, co‑generator engines, chillers and emergency generators. The role also reviews construction and remodeling projects and contracted mechanical work for code compliance and compatibility to existing mechanical and electrical systems. The Senior Plant Mechanic oversees monitoring of automated systems and assists other trades in completing required tasks.
Core Functions
Inspects and services facility utilities equipment and systems, keeping the Facilities Services manager informed of needs and changes required to maintain safe and well‑maintained infrastructure.
Coordinates the preventative maintenance program of all utility and infrastructure systems, including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, medical gas systems, water treatment programs, water distribution systems, building management systems, emergency generators and associated components to ensure integrity and reliability of the utility distribution systems.
Works with other divisions and departments to meet facility infrastructure and utility maintenance, installation and construction needs, negotiating priorities, planning work schedules, and recommending the use of outside mechanical and utility specialty contractors as appropriate.
Schedules and monitors utility and infrastructure maintenance repair work, alterations and renovation upgrades to the facilities’ utility and infrastructure systems, and oversees construction, installation and commissioning activities.
Instructs personnel regarding infrastructure and utility hazards, providing guidance, direction and oversight for infrastructure and utility training.
Coordinates infrastructure and utility system parts, materials and supplies within budgetary constraints, maintaining replacement schedules and records to stay within projected capital equipment budgets.
Oversees and maintains records for facility compliance with all applicable authorities having jurisdiction, attending annual code compliance and update training as required.
Works independently under general supervision, interacting with staff, co‑workers, patients, physicians, visitors, regulatory agencies, inspectors, contractors and vendors.
Minimum Qualifications
Three or more years of diversified work experience as a plant mechanic, stationary engineer, boiler operator, or refrigeration mechanic with advanced skills in plant operations.
Working knowledge of utility and infrastructure systems and components common to the healthcare environment.
Current Boiler Operator’s License if required by the state of employment (e.g., Colorado).
Certification or knowledge of applicable regulatory codes and building codes.
Proficiency in reading and understanding maintenance and construction documents.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in common office software programs and plant‑specific software.
Valid driver’s license and eligibility for company auto insurance coverage.
For Arizona positions, possession of an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous construction experience.
Three to five years of prior healthcare Facilities Services experience.
