MTA Metro-North Railroad operates out of Grand Central Terminal, serving over 86.5 million passengers daily in New York and Connecticut. As a subsidiary of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, our mission is to provide a safe, reliable commute with excellent customer service.
Responsibilities
Fabricate sheet metal fittings and ductwork from drawings. Install and repair ductwork and fittings in railroad facilities. Fabricate pans and fittings from sheet copper, and install and repair roofing, including shingles, roll roofing, tile, and roof cement.
Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or TASC, or an apprenticeship as a Sheet Metal Worker. Two years of work experience may substitute for vocational training.
Special Requirements
Valid Class D driver’s license or equivalent. Personal toolbox with sheet metal tools.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of telephone cable color codes, ability to read prints, use test equipment, knowledge of electrical laws, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
Rate of Pay
Starting rate 65% of $28.10/hour. Wage progression: Year 1 65%, Year 2 70%, Year 3 75%, Year 4 80%, Year 5 92%, Year 6 100%. Full rate 100% is $40.14/hour. Pay is based on the SMW Collective Bargaining Agreement. Journeyman rates may apply for qualified applicants.

Physical Requirements
Lifting and carrying tools and material up to 75 lb.
Working Conditions
Work outside with varying weather conditions. Work at heights up to 50 ft. on scaffolds and ladders.
