Position Summary
The Senior Cook is a Service Contract Act (SCA) position responsible for preparing center meals, establishing menus, determining food quantities, planning and coordinating day‑to‑day operations, ensuring efficient meal service and clean‑up, maintaining inventory records, minimizing waste, and submitting weekly activity reports.
Base Pay Hourly Rate: $17.20 to $18.50
Responsibilities
Prepare center meals, establish menus, and determine quantities of food needed.
Plan and coordinate procedures necessary for day‑to‑day operations of the center dining facility.
Ensure efficient and timely arrangement, servicing, and clean‑up of meals.
Maintain complete inventory files for food and equipment, and minimize waste through efficient storage and utilization.
Submit weekly activity and other reports as assigned.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Degree in culinary arts preferred.
Must possess or be able to obtain a ServSafe food safety certification.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (preferred).
Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with the Substance Abuse and Drug‑Free Workplace policy.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a nationwide criminal background check.
Knowledge of good nutrition, especially as it pertains to youth.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Knowledge of OSHA regulations.
Must meet state or local food handling requirements, whichever are more restrictive.
Maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
Ability to work some weekends and flexible hours.
Ability to effectively relate to trainee population.
