The Department of Pathology and Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks a highly organized and enthusiastic medical technologist to coordinate and perform clinical and FDA research studies in the Center for Advanced Laboratory Medicine (CALM). The candidate will be responsible for managing various aspects of the research studies performed in the lab, from managing IRB submissions, recruiting volunteers, screening subjects, obtaining lab specimens, ordering necessary supplies, scheduling, consenting volunteers, performing lab tests, and other logistical study support. Medical technologist license and phlebotomy skills preferred. Prior experience in clinical microbiology or molecular testing also preferred.
Job Function The candidate will be responsible for supporting microbiological and other clinical laboratory studies as assigned. Their role on these projects includes
IRB submissions and amendments
Recruiting and consenting volunteers
Screening subjects
Obtaining lab specimens and performing lab tests
Ordering necessary supplies and scheduling
Other logistical study support as assigned
The medical technologist will be adept at various specialized testing
The candidate will be responsible for safe laboratory practices
The candidate is exected to address logistical problems as they arise with minimal supervision
Lab Mission/Purpose The mission of CALM is to serve as a bridge between researchers and the hospital clinical laboratory and support clinical laboratory study needs across the instuituion. Our services include sample procurement, laboratory testing, new assay validation, new instrument validation and FDA device approval studies, sample processing, shipping, handling, storage, phlebotomy and data management.

Minimum Education Requirements A Bachelors Degree in scientific field
Minimum Skills Required Medical technologist training
Preferred Qualifications Medical Technologist Degree, m medical technologist training, 4 years experience including phlebotomy and microbiology clinical lab experience
