The Controls Technician position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and service of new and existing building automation systems. This includes troubleshooting, replacing controllers, system sensors, devices, and addressing low‑voltage electrical and network issues. The role may involve preventive maintenance to identify potential system issues. The Controls Technician will be closely involved with project work while adhering to company standards with dedication to safety, performance, quality, punctuality, and customer satisfaction. Experience / Education: 2‑year Associate Degree or 1‑year Technical Diploma in HVAC/Mechanical, Building Automation/Automation Technology, Electrical or related field of study, or equivalent on‑the‑job experience. Minimum five years of programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance of HVAC control systems and helping with installation, including experience with Tridium Niagara and Distech Controls. Flexibility to work varying shifts; weekends, holidays, and emergency on‑call as needed. Demonstrated interpersonal skills to effectively represent the company in an ethical and professional manner and consistent with our values and mission. Valid state driver’s licence and able to travel to customer locations. Ability to learn and use a service software platform. Work Environment, Hours and Travel:
This is a regular full‑time role within Bartingale Mechanical in our Eau Claire WI office. General hours Monday‑Friday 7:00 AM–4:00 PM variable, with rotational weekend coverage. Includes local and regional travel to project or customer work sites. May include longer days and weekend work for project support. The role is union and requires successful registration with Local 434 upon hire. As a Controls Technician, you will: Join a team of dedicated professionals. Develop and maintain positive customer and cowork worker relations. Diagnose and replace building automation system controllers and devices. Service and repair system sensors and devices. Address low‑voltage electrical issues and network problems. Install and configure control systems, automation systems, and related equipment. Perform control‑specific preventive maintenance to detect potential system issues. Diagnose, commission, and service DDC building automation systems for commercial HVAC control systems. Experience with BACnet, Tridium Niagara, and Distech Controls is preferred. Interpret and create control drawings, plans, and specifications to test programs. Point‑to‑point checkout, start‑up, and commissioning on assigned projects. Work with IT departments to enable remote web‑based access to building control systems. Ability to integrate factory controls into energy management systems including boilers, lighting panels, air handlers, condensers, chillers, exhaust fans, damper actuators, motor starters, and other HVAC and electrical related equipment. Maintain accurate service documentation and as‑built records. Manage necessary materials to complete assigned services and projects. Assist with project work, including system installations and upgrades as needed. Assist in system checkout, commissioning, and close‑out of assigned projects as needed. Assemble temperature control panels as necessary. Installation of HVAC temperature controls to include:
Control panels Control wiring Control devices Electrical metallic tubing (EMT)
Ensure all systems comply with industry standards and safety regulations. Represent the company on customer locations or sites for service work in the regional area.
