Wisconsin Plastic Products, Inc.
The Toolmaker is responsible for making precision tools, special guides, holding devices, punch dies, die cast and trim tools, modifying and repairing the tools used in the manufacturing process. The toolmaker will use appropriate equipment such as surface grinders, wire EDM’s, vertical CNC’s, milling machines, lathes and other equipment to create and make tooling to match part drawings.

Experience The successful individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are also desirable:
Associate’s Degree or Journeyman status or equivalent experience in machinist trade
Basic knowledge of materials such as steel alloy (differentiate alloy numbers), bronze, aluminum, and cast iron
Knowledge of which equipment is best suited for task in considering efficiency, accuracy, resources, and limits of equipment
Use of measuring equipment both manual and electronic (Micrometers, Vernier calipers, height gauges, pro-mikes)
Supervisory Responsibility This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment This job operates in a tool shop and manufacturing environment.
Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, high noise environments, and various types of metals. Eye and ear protection are required. May be required to stand for 8 hours per day and lift up to 50 pounds.

Use machinery such as lathes, presses, EDMS, milling machines and grinders to cut and shape the tools.
Follow engineering drawings to measure and mark out the design for the tool.
Communicate with the manufacturing team on needs and possible quality issues.
Assist with tool maintenance.
Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes.
File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools.
Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
Ability to read blueprints and complicated schematics.
Troubleshoot dies and molds and perform repairs.
Inspect completed tooling for any signs of imperfection or damage.
Set up and operate conventional or CNC machine tools.
Set up and operate drill presses.
Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools.
Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts.
Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies.
Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids.
Lift, position, and secure machined parts on worktables.
Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock.
Select metals from a range of metals and alloys.
Keep work area clean and well organized.
