Under the general supervision of the Director of Recruitment, Outreach, and Orientation, the Admissions & Outreach Trainee receives lead work direction from higher level SSPs to support advising prospective students, families, and the campus community on admissions requirements, the Sacramento State and CSU application process, student services on campus and other University related information. This position represents Sacramento State to a variety of constituents and maintains positive relationships with school and counselors, and the general public. This position functions in a Trainee capacity and will be under direct supervision in the advisement of students and admissions information sessions to prospective students and families on a one-on-one basis as well as in a group setting. This position will conduct established presentations and provide basic/general advisement to prospective students both in-person as well as virtual. This position is a full-time one academic year appointment, and is not renewable. Department Information
The Admissions & Outreach Office is a dedicated team committed to recruiting, informing, and guiding prospective students—especially those from underserved or disadvantaged backgrounds—through the admissions process at Sacramento State. Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior; research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information; and the techniques and methods of interviewing. Ability to gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences and interviews; clearly express ideas and recommendations orally; write clear and concise reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty. Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis. Required Qualifications
Ability to understand, embrace, and communicate Sacramento State marketing messages. Knowledge of recruiting and marketing. Knowledge of admissions, financial aid, and housing processes. Ability to work in a diverse work environment and recognize multicultural, multisexed, and multi-aged value systems. Ability to use standard office equipment and standard software programs Zoom, (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) Chrome, Edge, FireFox, Safari etc.), various online academic resources {i.e., CalStateApply, TES CollegeSource, Assist, etc. The ability to work nights, weekends, and a flexible schedule. Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents including faculty, students, staff, and members of the community. Must be able to complete frequent travel via personal vehicle with current registration and automobile insurance. Ability to frequently travel independently and timely Preferred Qualifications
Experience recruiting students from various backgrounds towards higher education Knowledge of Freshman and Transfer Admission Requirements in the California State University System. Experience working with diverse students: first generation and low‑income student populations. Knowledge of Title 5 of California Administrative Code, Chancellor's Office Policies and Regulations, National Accreditation Policies, and Campus Requirements relative to Admission, Advanced Standing Credit Award and Academic Credit Policies.
