Position Summary FoodBank For New York City’s Volunteer Engagement team is responsible for finding and connecting New Yorkers with opportunities to serve and support the city’s most vulnerable people, charities, and communities. Volunteers provide crucial support to Food Banks’ programs and operations, whether repacking food at our Warehouse, serving nutritious meals at our Kitchen or using special skills to support with administrative functions.

The role will support the Volunteer Engagement team in coordinating impactful opportunities, recruiting and onboarding a diverse network of volunteers, and ensuring a meaningful experience for all. The position will provide administrative support to the team and on the ground volunteer management.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Support the Director, Volunteer Engagement in coordinating volunteer programming organization-wide and building strong relationships across departments.

Provide administrative support to the team, including organizing meetings, overseeing supply inventory and orders, and managing invoices.

Lead meaningful volunteer events, such as Pantry, Meal Service, Repacks, and Mobile Pantries.

Represent Food Bank at outreach fairs, speaking engagements, and other community events to expand recruitment and deepen public engagement in Food Bank’s mission.

Lead oversight of Food Bank’s Volunteer Inbox and Volunteer Hotline to ensure excellent customer service and response times for all volunteer inquiries.

Manage volunteer data in Salesforce, including reporting on upcoming registrations, ensuring all volunteer attendance is logged accurately, and providing service verifications.

Oversee volunteer postings across external service opportunity databases regionally and nationally to reach a broader base of volunteers.

Conduct screenings for skilled and specialized volunteer positions.

Support coordination and on-the-ground facilitation of special events such as Town Halls, annual Volunteer Appreciation Party, and custom corporate volunteer projects.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience

Excellent communication skills with a high level of comfort with public speaking and training/facilitation

Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort

Demonstrated personal commitment to volunteering and service

Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Experience with database management, including Salesforce, a plus

Spanish language skills a plus

Working Conditions / Additional Info

This is primarily an in-person role, with occasional remote days

Must be comfortable traveling across New York City to Food Bank locations, mobile sites and events

Ability to lift up to 35 lbs, stand for long periods of time and perform physical event support tasks at indoor and outdoor locations in various weather conditions

Available for occasional weeknight and weekend hours as needed
