The Lead Mechanical Engineer, specializing in Biopharma Life Sciences, collaborates within a multidisciplinary team of engineers and designers to develop comprehensive construction documents for critical systems, including HVAC (wet and dry), plumbing, controls, and related infrastructure.
Explore your tasks and responsibilities
Performs engineering tasks for the design of utilities and HVAC (wet/dry) systems for high technology facilities including cleanrooms, pharmaceutical manufacturing/process facilities and life science facilities
Prepares mechanical engineering calculations in support of HVAC systems design including heat load calculations, duct sizing, chilled water hydraulics, static pressure calculations, equipment sizing and selection
Plans and schedules discipline deliverables and activities including man‑hour estimation, assigning personnel, and supervision of discipline personnel on the projects
Supports project on‑site execution and makes decisions to support projects and act as a technical consultant
Develops manpower and labor cost requirements for a project and monitors them to aid in evaluating project schedule and budget
Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff’s specific area of expertise
Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high‑quality, cost‑effective work by the discipline team
Develops conceptual, preliminary and final design documents which include calculations related to sizing and selection of these systems, and the development of process and instrumentation diagrams, general arrangements and sequences of operation associated with these systems
Works closely in coordination with the project team and other disciplines as well as other design offices
Coordinates with disciplines in the preparation and development of the deliverables and ensures those other disciplines’ inputs are incorporated

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required
Professional Engineer (PE) License preferred
8+ years of experience
Autodesk Building Systems Software
Preferred
Nation Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Record
Thorough knowledge of codes and common industry standards related to the design of biologics and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and systems
Consulting engineering experience
Experience working within a team environment
Experience in the quality control review process
Experience contributing to continuous improvement processes
