We are looking for a Transmission Superintendent. The Transmission Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day leadership, coordination, and oversight of electric transmission line construction, maintenance, and repair activities. This position ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the utility’s high-voltage transmission system, overseeing field crews, contractors, and support personnel to maintain compliance with company standards, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
The Transmission Superintendent serves as the key liaison between field operations, engineering, system operations, and external stakeholders to ensure transmission projects are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with regulatory and reliability standards.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Supervision
Direct, schedule, and supervise transmission line crews and contractors engaged in construction, maintenance, and emergency restoration activities.
Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and performance management for transmission personnel.
Promote a strong safety culture through regular safety meetings, audits, and compliance with all OSHA, NESC, and company safety policies.
Operations & Maintenance
Plan and coordinate maintenance programs for transmission lines and substations to ensure system reliability and compliance with reliability standards (NERC, FERC, regional entities).
Oversee switching, tagging, and clearance procedures in coordination with system operations.
Respond to transmission system outages, coordinating restoration efforts and ensuring timely communication to internal and external stakeholders.
Project Management
Manage construction and capital improvement projects, ensuring adherence to design specifications, schedules, and budgets.
Review engineering drawings, material lists, and project scopes for accuracy and constructability.
Track progress and report project status to management, identifying risks and implementing corrective actions as needed.
Compliance & Reporting
Ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and reliability standards applicable to transmission operations.
Maintain accurate documentation, including work orders, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and regulatory filings.
Support audits and inspections conducted by internal departments or external regulatory bodies.
Coordinate with engineering, system operations, procurement, and other departments to support system reliability and project delivery.
Communicate effectively with customers, contractors, and regulatory agencies as needed.
Represent the transmission department in internal and external meetings and committees.
Qualifications Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Minimum of 8 years of experience in electric transmission line construction, maintenance, or operations, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of high-voltage transmission systems (69kV–500kV) and related equipment.
Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations (NESC, OSHA, NERC, FERC).
Proven leadership and team management skills in a union or non-union environment.
Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Proficiency in work management and project tracking systems (e.g., Maximo, SAP, Primavera).
Ability to respond to emergency situations and work extended hours as required.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid driver’s license required.
OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training preferred.
Primarily field-based role with time spent at substations, transmission line sites, and operations centers.
Exposure to high-voltage equipment, weather conditions, and construction environments.
On-call availability for emergency response and storm restoration.
