Position Summary: The primary objective of this role is to lead and manage estimates from bid to project completion.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

Consult with vendors, personnel in other departments or construction superintendent/engineers to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues

Analyze plan documents and other data to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates

Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors

Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates

Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work

Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project

Assess the cost-effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops

Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures

Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction

Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components

Working with estimating team to help predict the timescales of a project, which has a considerable bearing on costs

Establishing the likely progress and completion rates, including allowances for bad weather and other unforeseen circumstances

Calculating a final figure for the estimated cost, supplemented by adjustments for overheads and profit, and presenting a tender price

Assume additional responsibilities as directed by division and corporate management. Travel as required to attend, but not limited to, meetings, site visits, training, etc.

Required Experience

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline is required

10+ years underground estimating experience required

Physical Demands

Travel will be required to attend training and meetings.

Ability to sit or stand for an entire shift

Occasionally required to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.

Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds.

Work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly.
