is seeking an experienced
Assistant Superintendent
with a strong background in
community commercial construction , including renovations and new builds for
schools, fire stations, municipal facilities, and other public service buildings . The Assistant Superintendent will support the Superintendent in managing all on-site construction activities, ensuring that projects are executed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards of quality and professionalism. This position is ideal for a motivated construction professional eager to grow into a leadership role while contributing to projects that make a lasting impact in our communities. Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership & Execution
Support the Superintendent in day-to-day direction and supervision of all on-site operations. Assist in managing field personnel, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain productivity and alignment with project goals. Help develop and maintain short-term schedules to ensure project milestones are achieved. Monitor work progress, coordinate subcontractor activities, and maintain effective jobsite organization. Safety & Quality
Promote a safe working environment and enforce Wharton-Smith’s safety policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and conduct routine jobsite inspections. Monitor workmanship and materials to uphold company quality standards and contract requirements. Project Coordination
Assist in coordinating permit and regulatory inspections with local authorities. Maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, progress photos, and quantity tracking. Support layout, material handling, receiving, storage, and inventory management. Coordinate delivery logistics to keep the jobsite running smoothly and efficiently. Client & Stakeholder Relations
Foster positive working relationships with clients, architects, engineers, inspectors, and project representatives. Represent Wharton-Smith with professionalism and integrity at all times. Support clear communication between the field team, project management, and subcontractors. Administrative & Technical Duties
Maintain timesheets, small tool inventories, and field purchase records. Ensure As-Built drawings and field documentation are updated and accurate. Participate in post-construction reviews and project closeout activities. Utilize project management software (PMIS) for reporting and communication. Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required; additional construction or technical education preferred. 1–5 years of construction experience, with at least
2 years in an Assistant Superintendent or similar field leadership role . Experience in
community-focused projects
such as K–12 schools, higher education facilities, fire stations, or municipal buildings required. Solid understanding of construction methods, scheduling, and safety practices. Proficiency in
Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel ; familiarity with
Project Management Software (PMIS)
preferred. Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between project sites. Physical Demands
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds to a height of 3–4 feet. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Why Wharton-Smith?
