Principal Responsibilities

Partner with Engineering Management to develop the processes and procedures that facilitate high quality, market leading products, which are developed on-time and on-budget, by a team of energetic, focused and driven technical experts.

Collaborate with Product and Program management, Systems Engineering, and other cross functional teams to assess viability of new product features and design a mechanical architecture for the product.

Collaborate with system program management to assess and develop project schedule and milestones as well as identify risks and mitigation plan.

Directs all aspects of mechanical design with minimal supervision.

Mentors/coaches/trains engineers with less experience.

Partners with product design and system architects to review and clarify design requirements and define the appropriate mechanical/thermal architecture.

Expertly assemble prototypes and verify form/fit/function.

Work with and manage external component suppliers/manufacturers.

Track test progress, bugs, and fixes and drive changes to design based on resolution.

Performs other duties as required.

Basic Qualifications

Expert in Solidworks (or onshape or ProE) in C2 surfacing and complex assemblies

BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

7+ years in mechanical engineering in product development

Lead Design Engineer on 2 mass manufactured (1M or more) electro-mechanical products

Proven examples of designing to meet budgets and rigid timelines

Demonstrated ability to create production data sets that fully define manufacturing requirements

Ability/flexibility to work on numerous projects at a time and navigate shifting requirements

Ability to self-manage, work directly with clients, vendors, and design teams

Strength in computational engineering including FEA

General machine shop knowledge

Ability to listen to client/company needs and add value through billing efficiency

Ability to travel and support clients/factories

Ability to own BOMs and write manufacturing contracts

Can solve complex problems while displaying technical creativity.

Experience leading technical teams, cross-functional groups and vendors regarding project plans.

Mentor and provide technical oversight of other Mechanical Engineers.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills and desire to support and mentor other engineers.

Proven ability to quickly learn new technologies and collaborate with partners to deliver outstanding results.

Comprehensive understanding of the product development, validation, and support life cycle for a complex vertical product.

Ability to meet vigilant.engineering, customer and/or government security screening and background check requirements are required for this role.

Due to contractual obligations with the U.S. government, this position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) as defined by applicable federal regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

Consulting experience.

Defense industry experience, or service in the armed forces.

Thorough knowledge of injection molding tooling, metal design, handheld electronics, and computer design

Electronics experience a benefit; including circuit design, PCB layout, component specification and sourcing

Experience in automation, mechatronics, and kinematic assemblies

Product Test design and implementation

FMEA, and compliance experience

Ability to quote work, develop product specifications, and document design history

Masters in an engineering related fieldExperience in overseas manufacturing

Demonstrated experience seeing a product from early design all the way through being shipped and supported to a real-world customer.

As our firm often design and consult for partners who develop regulated devices, we look for engineers with significant experience designing under aerospace engineering and quality standards such as AS 91xx, SAE, ISO or other highly-regulated environments is also helpful.
