C.R. Jackson, Inc., is a family‑owned asphalt and highway‑heavy construction company that has been serving South Carolina for fifty years. Our scope of work includes complex highway construction projects; private and public site development; asphalt paving from parking lots to interstates; cement stabilization of soils and reclamation of roadways; sewer and water system construction; installation of all manner of drainage systems; and hot mix asphalt sales. We have a presence in over half of South Carolina’s 46 counties with seven asphalt plants and 400 team members. Position Summary C.R. Jackson, Inc. is looking for experienced shop mechanics who are self‑motivated and team players. The position is an hourly, skilled technician position performing preventative maintenance and repair on company vehicles and heavy equipment. The shop mechanic’s primary responsibility is to troubleshoot problems, examine equipment, determine the extent of any damage and malfunction, and repair these pieces of equipment.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Maintain daily contact with the Shop Foreman to discuss goals and objectives for the shift.
Conduct diagnostic testing to determine if a piece of equipment needs to be serviced in the Shop.
Communicate the extent of repairs being conducted with the Shop Foreman.
Perform repairs and replace damaged/non‑functioning parts on equipment.
Prioritize and execute daily tasks.
Must follow all company policies and procedures and OSHA regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
Work well in a team environment.
Perform additional duties and incidental work as directed.
Required Skills And Abilities
Must be able to pass background and drug testing as required.
Ability to listen, understand, and follow directions.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to speak in a professional and courteous manner with customers and coworkers.
Ability to remain flexible with work hours and work overtime as required for project completion.
Ability to perform manual labor and outside work in all weather conditions including inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
Must use Personal Protective Equipment and have a strong commitment to following safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
Qualifications
Minimum 2 years of experience in diesel engine repair and mechanical maintenance is required.
Strong mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skills required.
Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams is a plus.
Valid driver’s license is required and a CDL is a plus.
Education and Experience High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.
Physical Demands
Regular physical effort including standing and walking is required during a regular shift.
Must have balance, hand‑eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
Must be able to stoop, bend, reach with hand and arms, crouch and kneel as required.
Must be able to withstand long periods of standing, stooping, bending, reaching, crouching, and kneeling.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push and/or pull 50‑pound loads at a time.
Must maintain alertness to the motion and activities of people, traffic, and equipment on the job site.
Will be required to frequently walk on uneven surfaces on the job site.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions and work environments.
Will be required to work on job sites close to live lanes of traffic.
Must be able to work some Saturdays and at night, when needed.
