SUMMARY We are looking for an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to join our practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in indirect tax compliance including sales and use tax, property tax, and other state and local business licenses compliance. This individual will work closely with clients to ensure compliance with state and local tax laws while identifying opportunities for tax savings and process improvements.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Indirect tax compliance: Review sales and use tax returns for clients, ensuring accuracy and timely filing.

Sales and use tax services: Provide expert guidance to clients on sales and use tax nexus determination, taxability of transactions, and exemption certificate management.

Audit support: Assist clients during indirect tax audits by responding to inquiries, gathering supporting documentation, and representing clients before tax authorities.

Tax research: Stay current on changes in indirect tax laws and regulations, and analyze their impact on clients’ businesses.

Process improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline indirect tax compliance processes and implement best practices for clients.

Client relationship management: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor on indirect tax issues.

Team collaboration: Collaborate with other members of the tax team to deliver comprehensive tax solutions to clients and support firm‑wide initiatives.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Strong understanding of state and local indirect tax laws and regulations

Proficiency in tax software such as TaxJar or Avalara

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment

Ability to manage multiple clients and projects simultaneously

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients and team members

Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights

Outstanding organization and project management skills

Highly motivated and takes initiative for professional growth and development

High level of accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to travel to client locations, which may include occasional overnight stays

Ability to work overtime, as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

Minimum of 6 years of experience in sales and use tax compliance and consulting within a public accounting firm or corporate tax department.
