Carex is partnering with an insurance industry partner to find a Senior Database Administrator to join their IT Infrastructure team in Madison, Wisconsin in a hybrid capacity for a one‑year contract.
Summary Carex is partnering with an insurance industry partner to find a Senior Database Administrator to lead and support the administration, development, and performance tuning of database systems. This role ensures high availability, security, and scalability across cloud and on‑prem environments, working closely with enterprise architects, system administrators, and security teams. The ideal candidate brings hands‑on experience with SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and AWS technologies, and demonstrates a strong focus on automation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do Manage database performance, availability, and security across SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB environments Design, implement, and maintain high‑availability solutions and backup/recovery procedures Automate database provisioning and infrastructure using Terraform and other IaC tools Troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues, including performance bottlenecks and replication problems Collaborate with development, security, and infrastructure teams to align database architecture with system requirements Ensure timely patching, upgrades, and documentation of disaster recovery protocols Support production environments including after‑hours maintenance and incident resolution Contribute to M&A efforts through data integration and transition planning Mentor junior team members and lead knowledge‑sharing and training efforts Participate in Agile ceremonies and ongoing process improvements to optimize delivery and performance Maintain and enhance monitoring, alerting, and reporting tools for proactive system oversight
What You’ll Bring Minimum 5 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server tools and T‑SQL At least 2 years of on‑call troubleshooting of SQL Server production databases and SSIS Strong proficiency in AWS RDS, PostgreSQL, and infrastructure automation (Terraform, CloudFormation) Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash Working knowledge of DevOps tools and methodologies, including Jenkins and Kubernetes Advanced problem‑solving skills and a collaborative mindset Strong verbal and written communication abilities Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred Cloud database expertise with AWS, Azure, or GCP is preferred
