The HR Generalist will play a pivotal role in supporting our first branch operations by managing HR functions tailored to our home caregiving workforce. Reporting directly to the VP of HR, this in‑office position is based in the Kansas City North area and involves hands‑on support for branch HR needs, including recruiting, employee relations, and the set up for HR needs in the office. The ideal candidate is tech‑savvy and can navigate HR systems such as Greenhouse ATS, Paylocity HRIS, detail‑oriented, self‑starter, eager to grow in role, hands‑on and eager to help, great collaborator, and passionate about fostering a positive workplace culture in a startup setting.
What You’ll Do
Policy and Director Support : Collaborate with the branch director to implement and enforce HR policies, providing guidance on federal, state and local regulations for the home healthcare environment, performance management, and best practices specific to our caregiving teams and branch roles.
Branch HR Support : Lead HR efforts in the Branch from beginning through growth phases. Support Branch Director needs for newly hired home caregivers, including leading HR orientation, ensuring onboarding documentation is complete, and ensuring initial training coordination is organized, complete and smooth for all new hires. Self‑Starter to proactively jump in to help with any Branch needs. May train small groups of employees on related topics when needed.
Employee Relations and Performance Management : Handle employee inquiries, mediate conflicts, and promote a positive work environment through proactive engagement and resolution of issues. Work with VP of HR on creating structured disciplinary outlines and train leaders on adherence for approach, documentation. Lead performance management initiatives from training to coaching to program development.
HRIS and ATS Management : Learn, help maintain and optimize our Human Resources Information System (HRIS) of Paylocity, and Greenhouse Applicant Tracking System (ATS), to ensure accurate capture of applicant to employee data, compliance with regs and seamless coordination with company EMR. Ensures accurate data entry through audits and reporting. Supports system updates, and user support for branch staff.
Payroll Backup : Provide backup support occasionally for payroll processing, including timekeeping verification, deductions, and compliance with wage laws. Learn process to support if needed.
Recruiting Efforts : Conduct initial recruiting activities, such as attending and/or hosting local career events, engage in sourcing candidates through Greenhouse and other virtual programs, and in community, screening resumes, and coordinating interviews to build our caregiver talent pipeline.
Technology and Reporting : Leverage HR technology tools for efficient processes; generate reports on metrics like turnover, hiring trends, and look back reporting to inform decision‑making.
Compliance Management : Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local hiring requirements, including background checks, certifications, and labor laws relevant to the personal care sector.
Other duties as assigned to support the overall HR function in a growing startup.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of experience in HR in a home healthcare environment with HR policy, employee relations, recruiting and systems knowledge and practice.
Associate or bachelor's degree in human resources or equivalent knowledge and experience required.
Demonstrated experience in HR policy, leading employee relations and engaging in HR Systems.
Strong communication and presentation skills with comfort speaking to groups and individuals.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to track activities in systems, run reports and conduct basic analysis.
Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel locally across Kansas City and surrounding areas.
Light travel within Missouri may be required from time to time.
Preferred Qualifications
2+ years of experience in home healthcare industry, non‑profit or assisted living facility environments.
Experience working with startup environment or creating programs in new settings.
Familiarity with the Missouri social service agencies, and community organizations.
