Business Development Specialist Job Summary Under minimal supervision, the Business Development Specialist will drive strategic growth and brand visibility within an assigned territory. This role is responsible for cultivating and managing strong relationships with brokers, coordinating marketing initiatives, and supporting regional business development efforts to increase submission flow and account growth.
Duties and Responsibilities
Continuously exhibit and uphold Core Values of Integrity, Accountability, Communication and Teamwork, Innovation and Customer Service
Develop and maintain strong, productive relationships with brokers and industry partners
Contribute to the go-to-market distribution strategy for the E&S segment to drive profitable growth and market expansion
Maintain deep and wide understanding of the organization’s business model, appetite, and product offerings
Monitor broker production and identify opportunities to enhance performance and engagement
Influence brokers to place business with the company through strategic relationship-building and value demonstration
Lead and coordinate in-person marketing activities within the territory
Organize and support company-sponsored events, conferences, and networking functions to boost brand awareness and broker engagement
Represent the company at industry events to expand visibility and market presence
Develop and implement regional business development plans aligned with company growth and profitability goals
Track and report on business development activities, broker performance, and market trends
Collaborate with underwriting and product teams to maintain a strong understanding of offerings and ensure alignment with broker needs
Use market intelligence and data insights to guide strategy, identify growth opportunities, and improve efficiency
Other duties as required by management
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Strong expertise in casualty insurance and relationships within the wholesale brokerage community
Skilled in identifying and qualifying new business opportunities
Strong analytical, strategic thinking, and data-driven decision-making capabilities
Excellent communication, public speaking, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Strong organizational and time management abilities
High degree of personal initiative and self-motivation
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
Proven ability to provide exceptional customer service
Ability to travel as required
Experience and Education
Bachelor’s Degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Minimum of five years business development, marketing, or sales within the insurance industry required, E&S experience strongly preferred
Insurance-industry professional designations or continuing education preferred
