ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a HVAC Mechanic at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. (1.5 nautical miles off North Fork of Long Island & 6 nautical miles off coast of Old Saybrook, CT). Marine transportation furnished by Government provided ferry.

Key Role:

Work as a member of maintenance team in support of all phases of facility heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems.

Perform routine and non-routine maintenance and repair of chiller plant in industrial setting.

Work tasks include preventive maintenance as well as repair services on freezers and refrigeration equipment.

Services are performed in support of research facility on a continuous 24/7 basis.

Respond to facility outages as applicable and tend to mechanical components and issues.

Maintain chiller plant and associated equipment.

Perform maintenance and repair of heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment.

Perform maintenance of compressors, condenser units, steam and condensate system, air handling units, pneumatic controls, heat exchangers, exhaust fans, pumps, chillers, cooling towers, domestic and commercial refrigerators and freezers.

Install and maintain various mechanical, electrical and electronic components, such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats and switches that are part of heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Diagnose and correct problems using knowledge, special tools and test equipment.

Perform installation tasks involving assembly, testing, calibrating, and adjusting of temperature control and environmental control systems.

Basic Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED

Journeyman level experience in industrial HVAC units and their support equipment.

Ability to work independently or as a team with minimal supervision.

This is a position essential to the facility operation. Work schedule is subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and Holidays.

This position requires the successful applicant to obtain and maintain the required security clearance or other authorization within the necessary timeframe required by applicable contract. Possess a valid driver license and must undergo required physical examination and vaccinations.

Additional Qualifications:

Ability to become an active member of the PIADC Fire Brigade. Fire rescue experience a plus.

New York based preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body.

Utilization of appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection is required. Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50lbs. Industrial work environment that may include loud noise, heat stress, work indoors and outdoors.

Ability to carry out housekeeping duties with minimal direction, following prescribed methods & directives.

Assignments may require entry into biocontainment facilities, utility plants, a variety of storage buildings and constructions sites. Work within the containment laboratory requires decontamination showers.

You must be physically able to move freely in environments that are restricted in space, unsteady or otherwise not easily accessible. Ability to climb ladders, and lift to 50 lbs.

As a condition for employment, all personnel entering the BSL-3 biocontainment facilities at Plum Island shall not be in contact with specific susceptible animals and their premises off Plum Island for a period of five (5) days after leaving biocontainment. Currently, restricted species are cattle, sheep, goats, deer, other ruminants, and swine. Contact with horses, birds (agricultural and pet birds) and rabbits are normally permitted, but restrictions may be placed on staff working with or near-contagious agents affecting these species. Restricted livestock or other restricted animals may not be housed on the premises where the employee lives and where the quarantine cannot be enforced.
