Position Summary Perform a basic to advanced level skilled work to accomplish sheet metal repairs and replacements of structural parts. Fabricate replacement covering, panels, or fairings by using the removed parts as samples. Read and comply with instructions and safety information as necessary for proper and safe completion of assigned work.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Cleans corrosion and treats metal surfaces per the manufacturer's instructions and specifications.

Performs basic sheet metal repairs and replacement of structural parts, including:

Use measuring instruments such as rulers and grip gauges.

Utilize hand and powered tools such as hammers, chisels, hand snips, band and circle saws, drill presses, squaring shears, and brakes to cut and form.

Assemble parts by bolting, screwing, and riveting.

Determine different types of fasteners by symbol.

Remove and install minor components of aircraft structure or systems, such as fairings, cargo liners, cargo floors, and access panels.

Repair minor or secondary structure per the manufacturer's SRM.

Fabricate replacement covering, panels, or fairings by using removed parts as samples.

Perform repairs of a cosmetic nature in passenger cabin interiors.

Demonstrate understanding of sealing procedures of aircraft structures.

Perform bonded repairs of honeycomb structures as instructed.

Identify the locations of pressurized areas of aircraft.

Open and close areas on the aircraft required for inspection.

Apply corrosion preventatives and maintain knowledge of areas where corrosion-inhibiting liquids may not be applied.

Possess working knowledge of ATA Codes, aircraft zones, narrow and wide body airframe familiarization, and industry standards.

Read maintenance manuals to identify and locate aircraft components and accurately implement instructions.

Identify the structural composition of aircraft (e.g., aluminum or composite) before performing any work.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Decision Discretion Decisions made by this role that do not require approval. Time off requests require approval.

Key Interactions Internal stakeholders include the Immediate Manager/Supervisor, other Maintenance Leadership, Department Leads, and other department employees and contract employees. External stakeholders include Corporate and OpCO employees, customers, and vendors.

Required Academic Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

Languages

Read, speak, write, and understand English.

Special Licenses

A&P certificate preferred; Airframe Familiarization (FAM) course certificates preferred.

Previous Experience

Minimum 18 months of relevant experience providing knowledge of narrow and wide body airframe techniques, terminology, parts, etc.

Technical Skills

Perform daily transactions within Flightstar’s ERP system, vending (POU), and research customers’ maintenance manuals.

Required Skills

Lifts and carries hand tools, parts, and work materials; ascends and descends ladders and platforms; frequently works in a variety of positions such as stooping, kneeling, or squatting.
