Diagnose and performs all necessary repairs to gas and diesel-powered engines, front end, hydraulic and air brake systems, electrical systems and related systems on all types of equipment. Carries out preventive maintenance tasks for all city owned vehicles and mechanical equipment. Performs acetylene and electric welding. Makes emergency road service trips as directed, both during and after hours. Performs work safety in accordance with city and departmental safety procedures. This is a safety sensitive and/or DOT position. As such, you will be required to participate in random drug testing at the city.
Perform routine maintenance on fleet vehicles and equipment Carries out preventive maintenance tasks for all vehicles and mechanical equipment Provide roadside service to disabled equipment as needed Cut and weld metal and related work Change and repair tires and tubes Perform major repairs on fleet vehicles and equipment Perform all other duties as assigned High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Three (3) years of related experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Thorough knowledge of automotive mechanics; considerable knowledge of gas and diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, fire pumps and valves, generators, and welding, price trends and grades or quality of materials and equipment. Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities. Valid Texas Driver's License.
Must be able to provide services for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations that threaten the safety of League City's citizens, and that, City employees must be able to work immediately before, during, or immediately after an emergency . Must carry out assigned projects to their completion. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public.
