General Description A Pipe Layer is an hourly-rated skilled craft position that performs on construction projects any combination of the duties described more fully, below.
Key Duties
Assist lead person with setting laser
Read and understand plans
General labor duties on pipe crew
Assist lead person with installing RCP water and sanitary pipe
Mud and cut pipe
Able to multitask and work as a team member
Prep pipe
Perform layout
Instruction of drainage pipe structure
Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts
Qualification Requirements
General – must perform each Key Duty satisfactorily; reasonable accommodations may be made.
Education and Experience – not an entry-level job; requires demonstrable previous experience as a Multi‑Skilled Laborer – Pipe Crew. A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Must understand work directions and communicate effectively. Three (3) to Five (5) years or more of industry‑related experience required, with an emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges.
Physical Demands – constant physical effort, standing many hours; ability to stoop, bend, crouch; work at heights up to 60 ft; use power tools overhead; lift and carry 50–90 lbs personally, up to 150 lbs with assistance; manual dexterity; operate concrete vibrators; maintain alertness; walk on uneven surfaces; certification to enter confined spaces; operate man‑lifts; climb on/off heavy equipment safely.
Work Environment – outdoors in all weather; exposure to noise, grease, dust; near heavy equipment; substances like form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, ready‑mixed concrete.
