Job Summary Fleet Services by Cox Automotive is hiring a Shop Trailer Mechanic I. This is a dedicated on-site shop position, and we do not handle emergency roadside repairs. If you're seeking a new place to work, we want to hear from you! The Shop Trailer Technician I will perform DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light repairs, and other duties like aluminum and chem-lite repairs, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers. They can also perform more advanced repairs under supervision, assisting higher-level technicians while developing their skills.
Responsibilities
Follow all safety operating practices and procedures.
Determine parts needed for each job and coordinate with the Parts Department.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, assisting in cleanup at day's end.
Apply knowledge from training and experience to perform tasks, understanding technical information.
Work with Service Writers to assess customer needs and provide assistance.
Manage multiple tasks effectively, prioritizing work appropriately.
Act with integrity, maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical standards.
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on various vehicle types.
Conduct routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
Document work performed and parts used using company standards and applications.
Complete DOT forms and other documentation promptly.
Maintain productivity levels within standard repair times.
Communicate with management for approvals, purchase orders, and notes.
Comply with safety, health, and environmental policies, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
Participate in safety training and maintain shop safety checks.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer equipment and systems.
Adhere to company policies and procedures.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED and up to 2 years’ related experience.
Own and provide necessary hand tools.
OEM training and certifications preferred.
Complete all required company training.
Must pass DOT physical and background screening; valid driver’s license required.
Current DOT medical card or valid medical exam required.
Safe driving record with 3-year MVR review.
Certifications & Skills
ASE T8 (PMI) certification within 18 months.
Preferred: ASE 608/609 certifications.
Knowledge of trailer parts, systems, and maintenance.
Good communication, physical stamina, and problem-solving skills.
Benefits & Compensation Hourly pay: $17.74 - $26.59.
