Job Summary Performs highly-skilled work in construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems (including medium and high voltage), equipment, and fixtures. Maintains and follows a safe, productive, cost-effective, and comprehensive planned and corrective maintenance program for constant reliable operations related to all campus-wide high voltage electrical systems.
Qualifications Minimum Required Education and Experience:
Requires job-related accreditation from a technical school or an applicable skilled trades program and 2 or more years of job-related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job-related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
High school diploma and 5 years of background experience in mid to high voltage (480V to 8320V) electrical distribution systems and the associated equipment of substations and energy plants.
Confined Space certified.
Licensed in SC as a General Contractor with a Public Electrical Utility Endorsement High Voltage Electrician.
CDL License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of high voltage distribution systems and the effects of work actions.
Hardworking, dependable, and safety-minded.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, one-line electrical diagrams, and other electrical documents.
Strong electrical troubleshooting skills and logical thinking.
Leadership, problem solving, initiative, strong customer relationships, accurate record keeping, effective communication, procedure development, management communication, and report preparation.
Key Responsibilities Percentage of Time: 35%
Maintain and follow a safe, productive, cost-effective comprehensive planned and corrective maintenance program for reliable operations related to all campus-wide high voltage electrical systems, including building, energy plant, manholes, tunnels, and direct-bury electrical systems by receiving work orders.
Communicate with the supervisor, plan, inspect, verify, communicate, and problem-solve assigned facility electrical issues.
Assist with ensuring all facility high voltage systems are in safe working order and compliant with national and local codes and regulations while exhibiting professionalism.
Percentage of Time: 30%
Install, repair, and maintain existing high voltage electrical distribution systems (including high voltage cable, switches, transformers, terminations, and test equipment).
Percentage of Time: 10%
Perform regular and preventive maintenance on high voltage equipment including energy plant electrical systems.
Operate and maintain tools and equipment needed to perform assigned tasks, requisition needed materials.
Percentage of Time: 10%
Read blueprints, manuals, schematics, and other drawings to complete repairs or installations.
Assist in resolving high voltage campus-related questions regarding daily operation, system design, and capital project requirements.
Attend meetings as required.
Percentage of Time: 5%
Train lower-level high voltage team members.
Other duties as required.
