Coho Technology Solutions is seeking a

Boiler Plant Operator

who will independently provide support to satisfy the overall operational objectives of NAVFAC Washington’s mission. The role provides boiler plant operator labor support to locations within the NAVFAC Washington Area of Responsibility, performing tasks and services outlined below. This is a 1st shift (8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.) with a rotating day off schedule. Hiring location: NSA Bethesda, MD. Responsibilities

Operate all equipment in a boiler plant to produce and control the amount of steam required to meet demand, including management of high pressure steam and hot water. Ignite fires, put boilers in service, and shut down boilers as needed. Conduct regular rounds to visually inspect equipment and ensure proper operation. Monitor flow meters and charts to determine steam production, demand satisfaction, and fuel usage. Start up or take boilers off the line, adjust firing controls, fuel feeds, and air drafts for maximum combustion efficiency. Operate auxiliary equipment such as pumps, water heaters, fans, and de-aerating equipment. Collect boiler water samples, perform prescribed tests, and determine chemical feed for water treatment and corrosion control. Monitor system for defects and repair or notify supervision as needed; follow standard emergency procedures until issues are resolved. Maintain logs, records, and other plant data; perform routine operational maintenance on burners, moving parts, valves, pumps, oil strainers, etc. Identify and repair limited electrical issues in oil-burning controls and safety devices when required. Operate air conditioning and cooling systems; regulate refrigerant, water temperatures, and pressures via controls. Inspect the plant during tours, perform minor repairs, oil and grease equipment, thaw frozen valves, replace fuses and defective devices. Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of equipment controls, meters, gauges, and plant drawings; apply procedures to meet complex demands. Perform tests and maintain knowledge of boiler water treatment chemicals and procedures. Independently plan and execute work according to established methods and procedures; adapt to high-demand boiler operations. Work schedules may include shifts, weekends, and holidays in alignment with government operating hours. Requirements

Education

Boiler operator must have a Class 1 Boiler Operator License in Maryland, Virginia, or Washington, D.C., or have a Class 1 Boiler Operator License with American Society of Power Engineers (ASOPE) or National Institute for the Uniform Licensing of Power Engineers (NIULPE). Experience

Minimum six (6) months of experience operating large (100 tons or more) air conditioning and/or refrigerant systems, or two (2) years of experience as an air conditioning equipment mechanic helper or apprentice. Demonstrated knowledge of repair, installation, assembly, and troubleshooting of boiler plant systems. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and guidelines used in boiler plant operations. Demonstrated dexterity and safety in using tools and equipment; ability to work with limited supervision. Experience performing preventive maintenance and operating safely in confined industrial areas and around equipment (pumps, water heaters, fans, UPVs, etc.). Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and operate in environments with high temperatures, noise, soot, dirt, grease, chemicals, oil, and fumes. Completion of OSHA 10-hour Construction Training Course is required at minimum. Position Pay Range:
