Fleet Services By Cox Automotive is hiring a
Mobile Trailer Technician II
for a dedicated on-site position. This role does not provide emergency roadside repairs. The Mobile Trailer Technician II will perform certified DOT inspections, Preventative Maintenance inspections, light repairs, and other duties such as trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body and framework. Work is performed at the customer site. The Mobile Trailer Technician II may perform more advanced repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Trailer Technician or higher and supports Sr Technicians as needed. The successful candidate complies with all company policies and achieves high-level performance metrics.
Responsibilities
Perform preventive maintenance, DOT inspections, and repairs on various trailers and equipment with little or no supervision.
Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using the company-issued iOS device and TRAIT application; upload photos as required.
Perform minor adjustments and repairs on trailer systems including brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely fashion.
Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical components.
Adhere to safe operating practices and procedures.
Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the service truck; perform periodic reconciliation.
Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle; conduct safety checks and pre-/post-trip inspections.
Apply formal training and on-the-job experience to perform duties; understand and evaluate technical information related to the job.
Communicate with clients to assess needs and provide information, assistance, and problem resolution.
Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work, and allocate time effectively.
Operate with integrity, maintain confidentiality, and adhere to ethical and professional standards.
Perform PMs, DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs in mobile/field environments; respond to dispatched service requests.
Use hand tools, precision instruments, trailer tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
Work with a high degree of independence, maintaining productivity within standard Repair Times.
Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
Coordinate with management and support teams for approvals on repair estimates and RO notes.
Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental policies and applicable regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
Complete required safety training and establish positive relationships with customers and vendors.
Maintain the service truck and perform daily safety and pre-/post-trip inspections.
Stay up to date on safety protocols and procedures.
Diagnose and repair trailer equipment and systems, including brakes, air lines, liftgates, welding, and panel/body work.
Identify problems, evaluate information, and generate effective solutions.
Inspect, test, and listen to equipment to diagnose malfunctions using appropriate tools.
Assist Mobile Trailer Technician I with diagnostics as needed.
Requirements
High School Diploma/GED and 3 years’ related experience (Trailers); or equivalent combination of education and experience; or 5 years’ related experience.
Own a set of hand tools necessary to perform job duties.
OEM training and certifications are preferred.
Must participate in and complete company-required training.
DOT/FMCSA regulations apply; candidate must pass a DOT-regulated background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A valid DOT medical card may be substituted if remaining validity is more than four months.
Must be at least 21 years old due to interstate commerce regulations; valid driver’s license required and ability to obtain/maintain Driver Qualification File.
Required or Obtained Within 18 Months
ASE T8 (PMI) certification.
Preferred Certifications
ASE 608/609 certification
ASE T4 (Brakes) certification
ASE T5 (Suspension) certification
ASE T6 (Electrical and Electronic Systems)
ASE T7 (HVAC) certification
Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of trailer parts and systems, their designs, use, repair, and maintenance.
Ability to synthesize information for problem-solving and decision-making.
Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for long periods; perform moderately heavy labor.
Ability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain endurance.
Basic depth perception and hand-eye coordination for tool use and inspections.
Clear and effective communication, both verbally and in writing.
Ability to determine appropriate tools and equipment needed for tasks.
Use logical reasoning to evaluate options and solve problems.
