Responsibilities
Cut pipes to required lengths using a demo saw and other power tools.
Install and repair wet and dry utility pipe, including sanitary and storm water sewer structures and pipe systems.
Move pipe into trenches, lay pipe in trench, assist with initial backfill.
Connect pipe pieces and seal joints with appropriate tools and materials.
Assemble pipe to meet pressure test requirements.
Work with and monitor fellow workers to ensure safety and productivity.
Perform pre‑task planning tasks.
Operate equipment within a Pipe Crew environment (e.g., excavator or loader) is preferred.
Operate equipment safely in and around active highway traffic under Maintenance of Traffic conditions and live traffic on a highway construction project is preferred.
Maintain equipment: perform light maintenance, protect equipment from damage, and conduct daily usage/utilization reporting.
Coordinate machine actions with other crew members using hand or audio signals.
Requirements
Minimum 2 years of experience laying pipe in highway construction.
Physical fitness: the role is physically demanding and requires strength and endurance.
Excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work in a variety of locations; locations may change daily.
Strong coordination: balance, depth perception, and eye‑hand coordination are critical.
Flexible scheduling: hours vary by job, location, and season; night shift may be required.
Work ethic: dedicated and hard‑working.
