Senior Paralegal.
Under the Supervision of the General Counsel, the senior paralegal must exercise limited independent judgement and act diligently in obtaining, organizing, and analyzing information regarding the University’s legal-related issues. The Senior Paralegal provides advanced legal and administrative support to attorneys in a specific practice area. The senior paralegal will be responsible for managing complex casework, overseeing legal documentation, and acting as a lead or mentor for any junior legal staff. Job Duties and Responsibilities
Case and Project Management: Manage all aspects of complex legal cases, including organizing case files, tracking deadlines, and coordinating large-scale investigations. Coordinates and performs complex activities for the Office of General Counsel: Conduct legal research, summarize findings, and draft various legal documents such as University policies and procedures, mediations, grievance hearings, court appearances, litigation, and other meetings; performs scheduling, copying, scanning and other administrative duties as assigned; manages all office functions to include budget preparation and travel, etc. Assist outside attorneys, as directed by the General Counsel, with trial and deposition support: Assist with trial preparation by organizing exhibits and witness materials, and provide support during depositions and other proceedings; assists outside immigration counsel with the gathering of information and coordination with the Office of Human Resources Management and Office of the Provost. Client and third-party coordination: Communicate and coordinate with clients, courts, and other parties to facilitate case progress and gather information. Litigation and Document Management
Maintains the Litigation Summary Report for all current legal claims/lawsuits; drafts responses to employee complaints, grievances, appeals, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) charges and SC Human Affairs Commission (SCHAC) for attorney review/approval; maintains registration and proper use of the University’s logos; maintains the contract database and performs a variety of document control duties. Prepares and processes documents to include legal memoranda, correspondences, addenda: various employment agreements/letters; Form 1s and invoices for outside counsel; prepaid legal defense reimbursements from the Insurance Reserve Fund; responses to subpoenas; Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. 1. Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or a paralegal certificate from an ABA-approved program 2. Previous work experience in a law firm or corporate legal department preferred (at least 5+ years). A bachelor’s degree in paralegal studies and experience working within a college environment. A high degree of discretion, confidentiality, and integrity when handling sensitive information. Advertised:
