Responsibilities
Assist in direction of the sports medicine program, including injury prevention programs, injury evaluations, injury management, treatment and rehabilitation, educational programs, and counseling of student-athletes.
Assist the head athletic trainer in coordinating all intercollegiate sports medicine activities at the University within the framework of the NCAA, conference, Board of Trustees (BOT) and University policies, including appropriate application of emergency procedures, providing first aid, documentation of care, and communication with coaches and physicians.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Athletic Director and Vice President/Director of Athletics.
Responsible for specific sport responsibilities, including attendance at team practices, home and away competitions, athletic training room supervision, and injury management of team members.
Assist in education of athletic staff in areas of student‑athlete health and well‑being, such as injury prevention, concussion protocols, nutrition, and hydration.
Perform job responsibilities in accordance with NCAA rules and regulations and Title IX; perform job with a commitment to institutional customer service expectations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and three years of related experience as an athletic trainer; or master's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one year of related experience.
Must possess or be able to obtain the National Athletic Trainer Associate Certificate.
Recommended Competencies
Observe practice drills and advise coaching staff of potentially dangerous activities, or situations when an individual should be restrained from participation.
Travel to cover athletic competition with designated team when needed.
Communicate with Athletic Director, Coaches, Head Athletic Trainer, and Physicians.
Apply various therapeutic modalities and give instruction for range‑of‑motion and flexibility exercises.
Apply necessary protection of injured area, including special taping or braces.
Clean and dress various abrasions, lacerations, etc., to help prevent infection and aid the healing process.
Evaluate new injuries after practice is completed.
Assist in the daily management & operation of the athletic training facility.
Refer student‑athletes to the appropriate medical professional when necessary.
Provide a comprehensive sports medicine health‑care service for student‑athletes in the areas of preventative medicine, injury assessment, treatment of injuries, and post‑injury rehabilitation.
Preview student‑athlete insurance policies and file and submit insurance claims.
Proper documentation and maintenance of student‑athlete medical files.
Assist the Head Athletic Trainer with the Emergency Action Plan.
Supervise and mentor Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree preferred in athletic training or related field.
Bachelor's degree.
Must currently possess or be eligible to obtain the FL Board of Athletic Training License.
Pay Plan This is an Administrative and Professional (A & P) position.
