Mortgage Loan Originator — Remote / Outside The VAB

Position Type: Part-Time, Commission Only Department: Mortgage Reports To: Mortgage Branch Manager or Sales Manager

Position Summary The Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) is responsible for originating residential mortgage loans and supporting overall loan production within the branch. This position meets the Outside Sales Exemption criteria under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and applicable state regulations, meaning a significant portion of time is spent conducting sales activities away from the employer’s place of business.

Key Responsibilities

Originate mortgage loans in accordance with company guidelines and all lending regulations.

Conduct borrower interviews to gather required financial information and assess eligibility.

Evaluate applicant documentation to determine appropriate loan programs.

Educate clients on available products, terms, costs, and processes.

Submit complete loan applications to processing for approval and underwriting.

Maintain accurate records in the loan origination system (LOS).

Ensure timely follow-up with clients, processors, and underwriters to move files to close.

Collaborate with internal teams to ensure smooth, on-time closings.

Meet established productivity, pipeline, and quality goals.

Stay current on lending policies, compliance standards, and industry trends.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; college coursework or degree preferred.

Active and valid

NMLS

license as required by state and federal regulations.

Previous experience in mortgage lending or financial services preferred.

Strong interpersonal, sales, and communication skills.

Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency with loan origination systems and Microsoft Office tools.
