TMD - HVAC Mechanic II (R-VI Camp Mabry HVAC Mechanic II) We are seeking a skilled HVAC Mechanic II to support the Texas Military Department at Camp Mabry. The role involves complex heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment work, including installation, repair, maintenance, overhauls, and servicing of base equipment and component parts in HVAC and power distribution systems. General maintenance work in the building trades (plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc.) may also be required. Guidance to others may be provided.

Work Hours : Tuesday–Friday, 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

Overhauls and services HVAC equipment and associated pumps, compressors, and circulating pumps.

Repairs and replaces worn or broken parts on condensers, compressors, and water and vacuum pumps.

Repairs or adjusts valves, piping connections, fittings, and couplings.

Tests refrigeration equipment for refrigerant leaks.

Removes and installs motors, thermostats, and humidistats.

Adjusts expansion valves and adds gas to refrigerant units.

Checks gauges and performs preventive maintenance work.

Performs inspections of equipment, operating machinery, systems, and building accessories to ensure proper maintenance and repair.

Maintains Direct Digital Control (DDC) equipment.

Identifies mechanical problems and determines how to fix them.

Troubleshoots malfunctions and repairs equipment.

Maintains records on work orders or projects and prepares reports on maintenance and HVAC repairs and services.

Changes out inoperative air conditioning and heating equipment.

Maintains and repairs buildings, utility systems, stationary equipment, and boiler system.

Operates motorized equipment.

May plan and oversee installation of HVAC systems.

May provide guidance to others.

May be required to perform duty in support of national emergencies, disasters, and other missions, including evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Education

– Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent (GED).

Experience

– Three (3) years of experience installing, repairing, and/or maintaining heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration equipment/systems.

Microsoft Office Proficiency

– Word, Excel, Outlook, and SharePoint.

Preferred Experience

– Maintaining and/or repairing chiller systems; experience in all areas of the building trade; experience working in a military and/or National Guard environment.

Certification

– HVAC technician certification registered through Texas Department of Licensing Regulation (TDLR).

EPA Certification

– Required within the first 180 days of employment.

Valid Driver's License

– Texas resident requirement or must obtain within 30 days after relocation.

Background Investigation

– Ability to obtain a CAC and/or pass a federal security background investigation; OPM SF-85 completion required.

Work Authorization

– Proof of eligibility to work in the United States within 3 days, complying with E-Verify and Form I-9.
