To safely and efficiently install, operate, monitor, repair and maintain operation of all Jackson Business Office and assist Southern Faculties refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, hydronic, and humidity systems and controls utilizing self and prisoner workers to complete duties.
This position is to comply with all applicable department policies, procedures, MIOSHA standards and laws while performing required duties. Instructs skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled prisoners with the performance of assigned tasks or duties. Also completes work requests and scheduled preventive maintenance.
Develops material orders and specification as well as monitors material inventories. This is a hand’s on position and this person is expected to handle all duties as assigned. Education Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school. Experience Five years of experience in the refrigeration mechanic trade, including one year equivalent to a Refrigeration Mechanic E9. Completion of a refrigeration mechanic's vocational training program that included commercial or industrial level instruction may be substituted for two years of experience. Possession of a mechanical contractor's license to carry out refrigeration mechanic work at the construction or remodeling project sites. Some positions are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State to operate a designated state vehicle. Some positions may be assigned maintenance, service, repair, or disposal duties that could reasonably be expected to release refrigerants into the atmosphere requiring certification in compliance with Section 608 of the Clean Air Act of 1990, as amended. Requirements The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals who have been convicted of a felony or who have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of 1996.
