Allen & Company seeks an experienced Survey Junior Crew Chief to join our Home Builders Department.
The Junior Crew Chief should be comfortable with construction staking, as-built, boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS land title, and lot survey.
The position must have experience with residential construction surveying & staking, preparing plot plans, foundation, and final surveys, topographic surveys, and preparing boundary surveys. Individuals will complete assignments for the RPLS and Survey Project Managers with minimal supervision.
This role reports to the Field Operations Manager.
Role and Responsibilities
Performs field work related to all types of surveys, topographic surveys, hydrographic surveys, and boundary surveys.
Accurately runs and adjusts survey instruments, including laser scanning, GPS, robotic total stations, level, and other electronic measuring devices with electronic data collecting capabilities. Also, Laser Scanning, Drone fieldwork procedures.
Perform mathematical calculations.
Reads and understands survey map data and construction plans.
Takes accurate and legible survey notes and performs simple note reduction and checking
Able to identify all material needed for a job (lathe, rebar, hubs, caps, nails, discs, flagging, etc.).
Utilize a hammer correctly to drive rebar, hubs, and lathes into the ground.
Read, use, and care for a tape measure correctly.
Able to use a prism rod and a metal finder correctly.
Using a shovel correctly to dig a plug.
Able to identify property corners.
Use legible handwriting on the lathe.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
High school or GED education required
CST Certification preferred
Minimum three years of experience operating survey instruments, collecting field information, and performing field computations.
Proficient in using computers, calculators, and math through trigonometry.
Demonstrated Knowledge of principles of survey measurement, staking, and marking.
Knowledge of math, geometry, and trigonometry.
Proficiency with GPS, robotic, and conventional survey equipment. Leica, Spectra, and Topcon proficiency is a plus.
Must be able to work in inclement weather.
Interpersonal Skills
Using excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate questions and/or troubleshoot with crew members efficiently.
Daily, show up to work on time according to the work schedule.
Working outside in adverse conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, cold, etc.
Ability to work with others in a group or team and remain flexible despite interruptions and/or routine changes to priorities and/or job duties.
Strong Time Management skills
Willing to learn, detail-oriented, goal-driven, problem solver
Strong work ethic and team-player attitude

Physical Demands Fieldwork involves working outdoors in all types of weather, walking long distances, and standing for extended periods while measurements are taken. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 75 pounds.
Availability/Schedule The schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., but may change based on department needs.
Travel To perform this position’s duties, travel will be required to respective job sites in Central Florida and within Florida. Drive/operate company vehicles -Must have a VALID Florida driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record (Required)
