Job Description
The City of Naperville’s Police Department seeks a part-time (30 hours/week) Community Service Officer (CSO) to assist the Patrol Division.
The position works Monday‑Friday (exact hours to be determined) and includes working holidays.
Occasional coverage of front desk duties may also be required.
This role is represented by MAP 744.
Wage rates and benefits are subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Duties The CSO will focus primarily on vehicle‑service responsibilities, including transporting department vehicles to the City garage, completing vehicle inventory, and performing safety checks and monthly inspections.
The officer may also perform other CSO functions such as completing police reports, enforcing city ordinances, issuing parking citations, directing traffic, assisting police during large community events, and providing help to motorists with directions, vehicle breakdowns, lockouts, and towing.
Front Desk Duties
Greeting and assisting the public
Completing criminal and non‑criminal reports and walk‑in accident reports
Answering phones and directing calls
Conducting follow‑up calls and interviews
Handling and submitting evidence
Fingerprinting
Standing, bending, and walking are required throughout all seasons.
Qualifications Minimum requirements:
One year of experience in a role with heavy public contact, preferably in law enforcement
High school diploma (or equivalent)
Good driving record
Preferred qualifications:
1–2 years of experience in a related field
Association’s degree (preferred)
Strong customer service skills and proven ability to interact effectively with the public
Knowledge of Illinois criminal and traffic laws, city ordinances, streets, and geography
Previous law‑enforcement experience and familiarity with police practices and services
Selected candidates will undergo a background check, polygraph exam, and post‑offer drug screen.
