Field Specialist in Agronomy – Chariton County Join the University of Missouri‑Columbia as a Field Specialist in Agronomy, primarily serving Chariton County and surrounding counties in the Northwest Region.

About the Position This 12‑month, non‑tenure track appointment is ranked at the level of Assistant, Associate, or Full Extension Professional. The role focuses on agronomy, including crops, forages, soils, weeds, insects, and pathogens. Responsibilities include planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs such as soil testing, precision agriculture, pest monitoring, grazing systems, and disease management.

Core Duties

Educate through meetings, online courses, continuing education classes, media, and other educational methods.

Create innovative educational products, curricula, publications, and online resources.

Connect with stakeholders, county extension councils, government officials, partners, and the broader community.

Professional Expectations

Engage with councils and stakeholders to identify educational needs and collaborate with partners.

Develop an annual plan‑of‑work and provide monthly impact reports.

Collaborate with campus specialists on research projects and share findings via demonstrations and media.

Assist other specialists and local leaders to meet county needs.

Maintain competency in communication, programming, grant acquisition, and leadership.

Offer timely research‑based information during natural disasters.

Represent the university on boards and committees.

Participate in professional development events.

Additional Expectations

Attend events outside normal business hours as needed.

Travel across Missouri and occasionally to other states; valid Missouri driver’s license and vehicle required.

Leadership and Oversight Senior Program Director for Agriculture & Environment provides overall leadership. Programmatic supervision comes from the Education Director, and administrative oversight is from the Regional Director for the Northwest region.

Qualifications An earned master’s or Ph.D. with coursework in Agronomy, Plant Sciences, Crop Sciences, or Soil Sciences is required.

Compensation and Benefits Minimum starting salary of $58,000.00, commensurate with qualifications. The position is eligible for comprehensive university benefits, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, and educational fee discounts.
