Job Description

The Assistant Solicitor I is responsible for prosecuting a wide variety of criminal cases in General Sessions Court and juvenile cases in Family Court. Responsibilities

Evaluates assigned criminal and juvenile cases for charging decisions. Prepares for court terms with scheduling motions and hearings. Attends and represents victims in criminal court trials, motion hearings, and guilty pleas. Attends Preliminary hearings, Initial and Docket appearances. Prepares plea offers and participates in plea negotiations. Studies and researches case law. Drafts various legal documents. Interviews victims, officers, witnesses, and expert witnesses. Participates in Law Enforcement training. Provides legal advice to county employees and the public. Interacts with a variety of individuals and agencies, to include clerical staff within the Solicitor’s Office, law enforcement agencies, victims, investigators, Judges, Clerks, and other County Departments. Non-Essential Functions

Attends meetings, conferences and seminars as necessary. Performs all other related duties as required. Qualifications

Juris Doctor degree supplemented by one to three years of experience practicing law, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Member of the South Carolina Bar Association. Physical Demands
