The Healthcare Credentialing Specialist is responsible for preparing, submitting, and maintaining enrollment, credentialing, and recredentialing documentation for healthcare professionals while also supporting the full onboarding process for new employees. This role ensures a smooth transition for new hires, supports pre-boarding requirements, and collaborates across departments to maintain compliance, accuracy, and an exceptional employee experience.
Guide new hires through the full onboarding process, including background checks, drug screens, employment documentation, and pre-employment requirements.
Compile and maintain current, accurate data for all healthcare providers.
Conduct primary source verifications and maintain copies of active state licenses, DEA certificates, malpractice insurance, and other essential credentialing documents.
Complete initial and recredentialing applications for providers; audit all applications for accuracy and completeness.
Track expiration dates for state licensure, DEA, board certifications, and medical education requirements to ensure timely renewals.
Enter and maintain provider data in online credentialing databases and systems.
Serve as liaison among the organization, providers, and outsourced credentialing services to ensure compliance.
Alert HR and Clinical Leadership of adverse provider actions and prepare communications as needed.
Compile, evaluate, and present provider data for review by decision-making bodies.
Work collaboratively with Compliance to maintain accurate rosters for peer review.
Provide professional, friendly, and high-touch candidate experience through phone and email communication.
Maintain accurate onboarding records and ensure timely completion of all documentation.
Respond to standard employee inquiries and escalate complex issues when necessary.
Handle sensitive information with confidentiality, discretion, and compliance.
Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.
1–3 years of demonstrated experience in healthcare credentialing preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft applications, including Excel
Strong technological aptitude and ability to troubleshoot software problems independently.
Friendly and professional communication style.
Highly organized and responsive, with strong prioritization skills.
Pride in serving as the “go-to” person for information and process coordination.
Proven relationship-building skills and strong customer service orientation.
Ability to work collaboratively across departments or independently when required.
High integrity, accountability, and strong commitment to compliance.
