Overview
Caton Construction Group, one of the Caton Companies, is growing. Our family owned company is seeking an experienced Pipe Foreman for our Roadway Project in Richmond, Virginia. The Pipe/Utility Foreman is a field position that is responsible for organizing and leading a crew to safely and efficiently perform construction activities related to the construction of underground piping systems. This position reports to the Project Superintendent. Candidates must be experienced in the planning and execution of underground RCP, CMP, and HDPE storm pipe systems installation in accordance with VDOT specifications. Additional experience in ductile iron water and sewer main planning, installation, and testing of the completed product is a plus. Candidate must be able to read, understand and troubleshoot project plans and specifications related to the construction of the storm, water, and sewer mains. Candidate must be well versed in survey layout and as-built checking for the product being installed. Responsibilities
Read, understand, and communicate contract plans and details Use survey control and a site level to layout, install, and verify installed products Communicate site, labor, and material needs to supervision to maintain field production Plan, organize, and lead a 3+ person crew to successful completion of the work on the first attempt Manage daily work schedule for timely completion within an 8-hour day Create a team environment to maintain discipline, attendance, and production Train new workers as part of the company-wide training program Plan for and maintain a safe work environment; request safety supplies as needed before shifts Supervise equipment operation and ensure safety and cleanliness of the work site Immediately communicate problems and site conditions to upper management Complete electronic daily reports documenting activities, hours, inspectors, subs, and materials used Maintain a clean and organized site Communicate with State Inspectors and provide input as needed during work in progress Position Type and Hours
This is a full-time position. Normal hours are Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., with potential variations. Traffic control requirements may necessitate different days/hours. Local or out-of-town work with possible overnight stays. Long hours and weekend work may be required. Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day; some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. A valid Driver’s License is required. Company-supplied vehicle or monthly stipend may be provided. Supervisory Responsibility
Assigns work to subordinates, establishes deadlines, and modifies schedules to meet project deadlines. Regular communication with the project team about schedule, needs, equipment, and long-term planning. Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent Proven experience as a construction foreman with a minimum of 5 years in underground pipe system installations A diploma or certificate in a skilled trade (carpentry, site grading, pipe installation, etc.) is a plus Why You Should Apply
