Recreation Leader
The City of La Mesa has several openings for energetic and enthusiastic Recreation Leaders. Employee may be assigned to work in one of the following areas: Community Center Complex (Facility Rentals): Assist with operation of facility rentals. Approximately 10-15 hours per week, primarily evenings and weekends. Adult Enrichment Center (Older Adults): Administrative and program engagement supporting older adults in various activities. Approximately 12-20 hours per week, including Wednesday mornings (leading walks), weekday hours (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.), and potentially evenings/weekends. To provide on-site supervision for programs and facility or park rentals; to lead community walks varying in length from 1-5 miles; to set up and tear down equipment for recreational activities; to maintain records and reports; to assist at special events or leading other recreational programs. Key Responsibilities
The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices. Observe necessary precautions to ensure the safety of activity and program participants; monitor and inspect assigned facilities for needed maintenance; clean facilities as needed. Direct the proper use and care of the facility and equipment. Supervise and monitor the behavior of activity and program participants; enforce applicable program rules and regulations; provide appropriate disciplinary measures as needed. Assist Recreation Supervisor in planning and conducting special events and programs. Issue and collect recreation equipment and supplies to program participants; provide assistance in setting up for various program activities. Assist in the maintenance of records and the preparation of reports on assigned activities and rentals. Participate in promoting assigned recreation programs and activities; prepare program event and facility marketing material including news releases, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures. Assist in leading a variety of recreational activities including sports, special events, day camps, arts and crafts and other recreational programs. Serve as liaison to supervisory staff, employees, the general public, and program participants. Perform a variety of general and routine administrative tasks in support of recreation programs; operate office equipment to perform tasks including those involving the use of computers and supporting software applications, copiers, fax machines and telephones. Perform related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Education/Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. College-level coursework in recreation, physical education or a closely related field is highly desirable. Experience: At least one year of responsible experience working in a recreation program or closely related. License or Certificate: Possession of a Standard First Aid Certificate. Possession of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (Infant, Child & Adult). A valid CA driver license or equivalent is desirable. Examination Process

NOTE: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment medical evaluation including TB test, background investigation and background credit check.
