Utility Person – Cleveland-Cliffs
As a Utility Person at Cleveland-Cliffs Steel located in Monessen, PA, your contributions will be visible all around you; the work we do here impacts people for generations to come. This is an entry‑level position.
Summary of Responsibilities
Perform simple routine work of cleaning doorjambs, doorsills, machine faces and frames, and faceplate between the will and bench on the pusher and coke side of the battery.
Perform simple routine work, dampening and removing lids, sweeping, and sealing lids.
Assist the Pusher Machine Operator in keeping oven doors clean and sealed.
Assist the Door Machine Operator in keeping the door machine clean.
Assist the Larry Car Operator in pouring coal.
Responsible for some hazardous waste‑management functions (e.g., moving and labeling containers, collecting samples, inspection).
Generate or contact hazardous waste as part of the production/maintenance process; may utilize accumulation container(s).
Comply with all Safety, Health and Environmental regulations, policies and procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED equivalent and must be at least 18 years of age.
Must be able to successfully pass the Utility Person Services Assessment test.
Must be able to perform simple tasks involving physical labor using simple hand tools (shovel, broom, jamb bar, etc.) and lift in excess of 25 lbs.
Ability to read, understand and follow safety information, operating instructions and procedure manuals.
Must be able to wear appropriate (hard hat, safety glasses, respirator equipment, boots with metatarsal protection, etc.).
Must be able to work at heights, in extreme heat and cold, and around hazardous chemicals.
Must be able to work overtime and on a rotating shift that includes weekends and holidays, and climb or walk on uneven surfaces.
