Responsibilities
Conduct examination of building permit applications, including blueprints, specifications, surveys, product approvals, shop drawings, and all other documents for compliance with the Florida Building Code and related regulations.
Prepare written and electronic reports and issue notices of correction.
Recognize, evaluate and resolve unique problems or situations.
Meet with design professionals, contractors and other stakeholders to discuss technical code issues.
Prepare and maintain required records and reports.
Inspect buildings and other facilities for compliance with the Florida Building Code and regulations.
Respond to inquiries from homeowners, contractors, architects, engineers, and other parties regarding codes and review procedures.
Perform general administrative/office work as required (e.g., attending meetings, preparing reports, correspondence, filing).
Review permit applications for residential and commercial projects to ensure adherence to applicable codes.
Enforce and explain pertinent sections of applicable codes.
Issue verbal and written notices of code violation and citations.
Assist in resolving complex customer service issues, both personally and via telephone or written communication.
Maintain records and documentation of customer service issues and resolutions.
Research problems and complaints regarding code compliance.
Maintain high ethical, honesty, and moral standards.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager.
Education & Experience
Licensed General Contractor with at least five (5) years of experience.
State of Florida Plan Review License (PX) in building, or State of Florida Inspector License (BN) in building, or ICC Residential & Commercial Plans Examiner and/or Inspection certification in building.
Must be certified or certifiable as a Building Plans Examiner by the Miami Dade and/or the Broward County Board of Rules and Appeals (BORA).
Knowledge of the Florida Building Code and related construction regulations.
Ability to understand and interpret codes and evaluate project proposals and construction projects for conformance.
