What You’ll Do
Break significant sports news, from Orioles headlines to high‑profile local events.
Serve as the backup Orioles reporter, traveling to ~35 % of away games and attending ~60 % of home games.
Produce compelling features, profiles, and enterprise pieces that reveal the “why” behind the action.
Monitor the local sports scene, uncovering stories readers want, staying current on local stars such as Angel Reese and Gervonta Davis.
Collaborate with the Banner’s engagement and data teams to maximize audience reach across platforms.
Partner with editors and reporters across coverage areas where sports intersect business, culture, and community.
Engage audiences via video, podcasts, and social media to build a vibrant, interactive connection with readers.
What You’ll Bring
2+ years of professional journalism experience, ideally covering sports.
Storytelling ability – make complex topics compelling and accessible.
Proven ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment with meticulous accuracy.
Strong news judgment and understanding of reader interest.
Collaborative, adaptable, and energized by working with newsroom teams.
Comfortable working nights and weekends.
Strategic and organized with excellent planning and time‑management skills.
Data‑and‑social‑media savvy to grow digital audiences; knowledge of SEO.
Data reporting skills or Spanish language ability are a plus.
Commitment to journalistic integrity, ethics, and audience trust.

Salary $60,000 – $80,000, subject to experience and internal equity.
