Hiring: Prep Cook Nonna’s Kitchen in downtown Spearfish, South Dakota is looking for a talented and motivated prep cook to help us take our highly acclaimed Italian restaurant to the next level. Nonna’s working vision is to be the premier Italian restaurant and cocktail lounge in the Black Hills, focused on offering an unrivaled guest experience revolving around exquisite, home‑made dishes and a superior libation selection served by a welcoming, professional staff in a family‑friendly atmosphere.

Primary Responsibilities

Completing all tasks, in order, on the prep list from the Head Chef or other kitchen manager

Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they can be organized and easily accessible

Measure ingredients and seasonings to be used in cooking

Prepare cooking ingredients by washing and chopping vegetables, cutting meat, etc.

Undertake basic cooking duties such as reducing sauces, parboiling food, etc.

Prepare simple dishes such as salads, entrees, etc.

Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by washing dishes, sanitizing surfaces, taking out trash etc.

Ensure all food and other items are stored properly

Keeping track of ingredient inventory and collaborating with other kitchen and management staff to order resupply

Adhering to and ensuring compliance with all appropriate safety, cleanliness, and sanitation standards and regulations

Perform other kitchen duties as assigned

Secondary Responsibilities

Developing Italian‑themed dishes to complement the regular and seasonal menus that reflect superior preparation and presentation using only the highest quality ingredients

Advising on price menu items in collaboration with the restaurant manager/owner

Engaging in customer relations

Building and nurturing professional contacts with vendors and the culinary community

Skill Sets Being Sought

A proven and superior track record as a prep cook or other food preparation position

Knowledge of various cooking procedures and methods

Ability to work efficiently, quickly, and safely with the requisite manual dexterity to operate cutting tools and kitchen utensils

Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with other staff members

Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

Willingness to learn new recipes and techniques and adapt to changes in the menu

A creative, sensitive, and inspiring palate that loves Italian food

A positive, can‑do attitude, patience, and the ability to handle pressure effectively

Superior work ethic and organizational ability

Understanding of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures

High standards of cleanliness and safety

Very good physical condition and endurance

An infectious enthusiasm for the restaurant’s vision and goal!

Certification from a culinary school or serve‑safe is a plus

Location: 544 N Main St. Spearfish, SD 57783

Hours: Full and part time mornings, Wednesdays to Sundays

Compensation: $11‑15 an hour (skill dependent)
