Brief Description Perform a variety of professional duties for participants of the federal Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infant and Children (WIC) under the supervision of the WIC Director, Associate Director or Practice Administrator. Guided by thorough knowledge of counseling methods, practices and procedures, applicable government regulations, the policies and procedures of the NYSDOH WIC Program and the Institute for Family Health. Uses the NYSDOH NYWIC computer system to process participant information. Is cognizant of the philosophy, standards, objectives, and policies of the WIC Program and the organization. Has thorough knowledge of the community and public health facilities so as to refer participants as needed. Assist the WIC Director and/or Associate Director with related departmental duties.
Responsibilities
Work under the supervision of the WIC Director, Associate Director or Practice Administrator.
Use the NYSDOH NYWIC computer system to process participant information.
Provide counseling using techniques, practices, procedures, applicable government regulations, and policies.
Refer participants to community and public health facilities as required.
Assist the WIC Director and/or Associate Director with related departmental duties.
Requirements & Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Dietetics, Food and Nutrition meeting ADA minimum requirements (RD eligible).
Minimum one year nutrition education experience in a community setting with nutrition counseling and teaching skills.
Computer skills and familiarity with Windows environments, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Bilingual – English/Spanish preferred.
Ability to work effectively with individuals of different backgrounds.
