Basic Function
HF Sinclair in Artesia, NM is seeking a Reliability Manager. This position is accountable for all aspects and oversees multiple activities of the organization’s site reliability programs, ensuring high availability, performance, and resilience of critical systems and services.
Job Duties
Oversees and manages staff and activities responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and performance of critical systems and services across the organization.
Leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of site reliability strategies, processes, and procedures to enhance system resilience.
Monitors key reliability metrics (e.g., uptime, incident frequency, mean time between failures) and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Evaluates system performance, lifecycle management, and technology investments to support repair/replace decisions and long-term reliability planning.
Participates in investigations of major equipment incidents and ensures effective determination of causes and corrective actions.
Ensures adherence to internal standards, applicable codes (e.g., API, NEC, NFPA), and industry best practices related to fixed equipment, electrical systems, and other critical assets, supporting compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational reliability objectives.
Collaborates cross-functionally with engineering, operations, and business teams to align reliability initiatives with organizational goals.
Ensures that reliability teams follow established change management policies and procedures when implementing improvements, including proper documentation, communication, training, and coordination with stakeholders.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
Experience A minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience is required, with at least five years in a refinery or industrial setting. Experience in equipment reliability, maintenance, or engineering leadership roles is preferred.
Education Level A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a closely related technical field is preferred. Equivalent industry experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
Required Skills Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities within a refinery or industrial environment. Strong understanding of equipment reliability principles across fixed, rotating, electrical, and instrumentation assets. Proficiency in reliability tools and systems such as SAP analysis methodologies (e.g., RCA, FMEA), and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) practices. Solid knowledge of applicable codes and standards (e.g., API, ASME, NEC, NFPA). Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across departments and influence decision-making. Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility Responsible for the supervision of a team of employees.
Work Conditions Office based with up to 5% travel by land and air required. Petroleum refinery, warehouse/plant environment, out-of-doors environment and driver-based environment including but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, and rotating equipment. Subject to all temperatures, weather and varying road conditions.
