Summary Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Residence Life, the

Residence Life Coordinator (RLC)

is an integral part of the on-campus experience for residential students. The RLC is responsible for the general development, administration and supervision of student staff and residents in the residential community. On-campus living is a requirement of this position, and salary includes room and board.

Work Performed Residence Life Leadership & Administration

Provide strategic oversight of all Residence Life operations, including daily management of university housing facilities, occupancy, and residential programs.

Manage crisis response and serve as a key leader in coordinating emergency and after‑hours student support in collaboration with the Associate Vice President for Student Engagement.

Maintain regular communication with the Director for Residence Life and other university administrators regarding student concerns, incidents, and property matters.

Exercise sound judgment in addressing resident compliance with university policies and community standards consistent with the mission and values of Charleston Southern University.

Residence Life Coordinators will support the office of Student Conduct with room violations and other minor offenses within their designated residence halls.

Student Support & Community Development

Engage with individual students to address personal, social, or academic concerns, offering guidance, mediation, and referral to campus resources as appropriate.

Cultivate a supportive residential environment that encourages academic success, spiritual growth, and meaningful community connections.

Facilitate positive interpersonal relationships among residents through intentional programming, conflict resolution, and community engagement efforts.

Staff Supervision & Training

Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate a team of Resident Assistants (RAs), fostering a cohesive, professional, and ministry‑minded team culture.

Provide ongoing professional development and faith‑integrated leadership training for Residence Life staff throughout the academic year.

Ensure effective communication, collaboration, and accountability among Residence Life staff through regular meetings, retreats, and evaluations.

Programming & Student Engagement

Design and implement social, educational, and spiritual programming to enhance residential life and promote student well‑being.

Collaborate with Student Life and campus partners to plan and execute programs aligned with institutional goals and the CSU mission.

Support the coordination of summer housing operations, including camp hosting, furniture projects, and student staff training.

Facilities Management & Administration

Conduct regular inspections of residential facilities and ensure that maintenance concerns are reported and resolved in a timely manner.

Coordinate room assignments, check‑in/check‑out processes, and housing records for new and returning students.

Oversee administrative responsibilities such as scheduling staff coverage, managing reports (health/safety inspections, compliance, incident documentation), and ensuring policy adherence.

Collaborate with Facilities and Campus Security to maintain safe and well‑functioning residential environments.

Professional Expectations

Participate in departmental committees and university initiatives as assigned.

Serve in an on‑call rotation, which includes evening, weekend, and holiday responsibilities (approximately one duty night per week and three weekends per semester).

Manage routine, critical, and seasonal administrative tasks in alignment with university policies and Residence Life priorities.

Perform additional duties as assigned to advance the mission of Charleston Southern University and the Division of Student Engagement.

Perform other related duties incidental to the job.

Qualifications Education:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year institution (Master’s preferred).

Experience:

Christian leadership and spiritual development. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. Knowledge of general office procedures. Working knowledge of database software and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Collaborative, flexible, innovative. Ability to successfully work within a team. Assisting and Caring for Others. Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships. Ability to resolve conflicts and negotiate with others. Self‑starter who can make decisions and solve problems.
