Overview Under the supervision of the Project Manager, performs those landscaping tasks necessary to meet landscape contract specifications.

Key Responsibilities

Maintains landscapes of assigned landscape contracts.

Mows turf areas using a variety of mowers including push mowers, walk-behinds, riding mowers, and tractor with bush-hog.

Trims turf areas using string trimmers and sidewalk edgers.

Trims shrubs for health, shape, and safety using hedge trimmers and loppers.

Prunes trees for health, shape, and safety using pole pruners, chain saw, and loppers.

Mulches, weeds, cultivates, edges tree rings and other mulched areas using spades, wheelbarrows, and cultivators.

May apply chemicals including fertilizers, insecticides, and herbicides using push spreader, backpack sprayer, and tractor with spreader, documenting each application per Maryland Department of Agriculture requirements.

Removes debris from turf, mulch, and paved areas using rakes, push and backpack blowers, and tarpaulins.

Plants and maintains seasonal color displays using trowels, bulb drills, shovels, and hoses.

Assists in planning and executing landscape operations such as choosing plant materials, preparing planting areas, grading, tilling, adding soil amendments, removing existing vegetation, installing metal edging, strip drains, building steps, and performing snow‑removal tasks.

Works with, assists supervising, and trains assigned crew members, including adults with varying abilities.

Physical Qualifications Stand 34%, walk 33%, sit 33% of work time; lift or carry 60 pounds and push or pull 100 pounds; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach as required. Must be able to operate riding mowers, see and identify colors, and respond to safety hazards.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent and at least 2 years of experience in landscape work, including planting, mowing, pruning trees and shrubs, and using mowers, tractors, and small gas‑powered equipment.

Preferred: One year of supervising two or more people.

Valid driver’s license.

Reliable transportation to the work site.

Self‑motivated and able to run the assigned crew in the foreman’s absence.
